Deacon Maureen Spinks

Maureen  trained in Manchester and has served in appointments in Wakefield, Swindon, Gloucester, Northampton and North Fylde before finding herself here in Orpington/Chislehurst.

Her passions are for helping churches become accessible to those who have no background or experience of them and creating church communities that will work well in the 21st Century.

Rev'd Terry Wright

Terry says that for peace on a Sunday morning his parents send him to Sunday School in the local Methodist Church! He joined the army as a Royal engineer and served until he became a committed (born again) Christian and decided to leave the armed forces to train as a preacher.

He was ordained in 2003, having trained at Wesley College in Bristol, and still maintains links to the armed forces, serving as a part-time Chaplain to The Forces, especially with Cadets. In his spare time, Terry loves punk rock, riding motorbikes, tinkering with cars and of course spending time with is wife and two children.

Local Preacher Mrs Joan Mayes

As well as being a Local Preacher, Joan is our treasurer and a Church Steward.  Other roles include Circuit responsibilities and trustee of a small Christian charity supporting medical work, mainly in Sub-Saharan Africa. 

Her formative years were spent in a Leicestershire village, where as a teenager, a minister, who as a missionary escaped from China during the 1950's uprising, stimulated her interest in overseas missions. In due course this led her to 11 years service with the Methodist Church in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), where she worked alongside the General Superintendent (now Bishop) as the administrator.  It was during this period that she qualified as a Local Preacher.  

Upon returning to the UK, she settled in Chislehurst, commuting to what was then Methodist Church Overseas Division – now Methodist Church House.  There, until retirement, her roles were diverse, principally she was a Finance Administrator, taking care of financial aspects relating to mission partners serving overseas and grant allocations.
